Konami wants to make a remake of Metal Gear Solid

Kojima Productions’ Matsuhana has mentioned in an interview that Metal Gear Solid will not be included in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, since the gameplay and appearance of the game are too dated. The Konami studio would like to rerelease the game however.

Matsuhana said that not only the graphics of the classic PlayStation game are too dated to add it to the HD Collection, but the gameplay is too dated as well. The producer thinks the game needs more than just a graphical update. Kojima Productions would, for example, like to change some gameplay and story elements.

Metal Gear Solid has been rereleased once before by Silicon Knights. They released Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes in 2004, which featured Metal Gear Solid 1 enhanced with gameplay elements from Metal Gear Solid 2. The game was released only on Nintendo Gamecube.

At the end of this week Kojima Productions announced the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. This collection will consist of Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. All games in this collection can be displayed in full HD and the HD collection will be released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game is scheduled to be released at the end of this year, the exact date is unknown at the time of writing.
